Bourbon, Bacon and Swiss Cheese

It’s robust flavor adds a sweet and smokey element to the bacon in this dish. Just a tablespoon is all you need for the sweet and savory bacon sauce.

How do I make a bourbon burger?

I like to use at least 80% lean grass-fed local beef, but feel free to change this up to your liking. A fattier burger tends to be quite tasty as well.

For this recipe, we’re not actually adding bourbon to the ground beef. Typically, bourbon burgers are topped with bourbon soaked onions or a bourbon “jam.”

How to make the best bourbon burger

To make bourbon burger jam, you’ll start by caramelizing your onion with butter.

Next, add in your chopped and semi-crispy bacon along with bourbon and powdered erythritol sweetener.

Don’t have erythritol? No worries, the mix is still super tasty without it. You may also want to sub in your favorite sweetener instead of erythritol.

Finally, smother your burger with this delectable mixture. This deliciousness is a low-carb take on bacon jam, without all the prep and fuss.

The bourbon & bacon jam also pairs nicely with a fat, juicy steak or pull-apart pork roast.

Burger-making tips

I cook my patties, adding the Swiss cheese just before removing from the pan. Next, I add a big scoop of the bourbon and bacon jam. You can add a side of lettuce, tomato, extra onions, and pickles for even more flavor.
